Arabic phrases for Egypt
These Arabic phrases for Egypt are in Egyptian Arabic, the everyday language of Cairo and the rest of the country, rather than the formal Arabic of news and books. Arabic is written right to left, and each phrase comes with a romanization and a pronunciation guide. Many phrases change depending on whether you speak to a man or a woman, and the note under each one gives the other form. Law samaht gets attention politely, and momken, “is it possible”, softens almost any request. Shukran is thanks, and maʿlish covers a small slip.
Each phrase shows the English, the Arabic, a romanization and, in bold, a pronunciation guide written for English speakers.
