Gujarati travel phrases

These Gujarati travel phrases use tame, the polite “you”, which is right for shopkeepers, drivers and anyone older than you. Gujarati script looks like Devanagari without the line along the top, and each phrase comes with a romanization and a pronunciation guide. Kem chho?, “how are you?”, is the classic Gujarati hello, and namaste works at any hour. Ābhār means thank you. For food to take away, ask for a parcel. State buses leave from the ST stand, and toasting with drinks is uncommon, so most people simply say cheers.

Each phrase shows the English, the Gujarati, a romanization and, in bold, a pronunciation guide written for English speakers.
